{"id":128,"date":"2010-01-23T19:38:21","date_gmt":"2010-01-24T00:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.willneratlanta.com\/blog\/?p=128"},"modified":"2021-09-07T12:23:58","modified_gmt":"2021-09-07T16:23:58","slug":"is-total-dissolved-solids-really-a-marker-of-water-purity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peachvitamins.com\/learn\/is-total-dissolved-solids-really-a-marker-of-water-purity\/","title":{"rendered":"Is &#8216;total dissolved solids&#8217; really a marker of water purity?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a water filter that claims to filter &#8220;total dissolved solids&#8221; (TDS)\u00a0 from your water.\u00a0 They say &#8216;dissolved solids&#8217; can be either organic or inorganic, plant or mineral.\u00a0 Dissolved solids can be harmful (like asbestos, aluminum, cadmium) but they can also be good (like potassium, calcium, phosphorus, and salt&#8211;sodium chloride).\u00a0 This company even gives you a link to another company that sells a meter to test the TDS of your water.\u00a0 They say the closer to zero the solids, the more pure the water.\u00a0 This is only part of the story&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>Having a low TDS does NOT mean your water is pure!!<\/p>\n<p>Purity is not limited to dissolved solids.\u00a0 Bacteria, viruses, chemicals and pharmaceuticals are NOT dissolved solids, and yet are dangerous to your health.\u00a0 So your water could &#8220;test&#8221; with these TDS meters as having low or &#8216;safe&#8217; levels, but still contain carcinogens, toxic bacteria, and volatile organic compounds!!<\/p>\n<p>So be careful of water filters that focus on removing dissolved solids ALONE.\u00a0 There are actually four important areas of purity to consider with your water: Dissolved solids, chemical, aesthetic (taste and odor), and microbiological.
